We are learning about time and temperature. I would like to learn more about degress farenheight. Tom - we will be looking at this next week. Mrs.Breeds
15/03/10
W.A.L.T about different time zones around the world and how to calculate time differences. Today I found that if
you leave at 4:00am on december 6th you get to london on the 6th at 1:47. 1.47 am or pm? Be careful! You needed to include an explanation of how the time zones work, including GMT.
19/03/10
W.A.L about exchange rates for currency.
I learnt that when you exchage your money from New Zealand to Indonesia it seems like you get alot more.
I had a "AH HA" moment when I found this out. It might seem like it - but things also appear to cost more in some countries too!
19/03/10
W.A.L about how to convert fahrenheit to celsius for temperture.
When I learnt the method I had a "AH HA" moment. You need to explain you AH HA moment!
24/03/10
W.A.L about how to use algebraic thinking to solve problems.
At first I didnt understand the method and I keeped getting confused.
Then Mr Cheer showed me the method and at that moment I had a "AH HA" moment.
Here's a example of the method
8.67-7.88
+.12 on both
8.79-8=0.79
I am pleased you had an ah ha moment Tom. This is a really useful strategy that I am sure you will enjoy using. TC
29/03/10
W.A.L.T use temperture as a strategy to help us add and subtract intergers.
Today we learnt a strategy where there is a poolthat you either add or subtract positive and negatie numbers.
I found it quite helpful at first but and it could help me in future with high school and other jobs. I am pleased you found it useful Tom. I am sure you will remember it in the future. TC
31/03/10
W.A.L.T add dont subtract when working on decimal subtraction problems. Today we made subtraction problems then converted them into addtion problems.
I had learnt it before but it was good revision.
12.57-6.43=?
6.43+[ 6.14 ]=12.57 20/04/10
W.A.L.T use a number of different problem solving strategies to solve complex problems.
Today was just revision for me because I knew all the strategies. I think our team worked very well together. What strategies do you feel confident using and what ones do you need to practice Tom. I am looking forward to seeing all these in your brainstorm as evidence of what you did know before we started. 26/04/10
W.A.L.T use a variety of graphs to show different data.
We learn't how to use a dot plot and stem and leaf graph. Mmmm...what else did you learn? What kind of data do each of these show? You can refer to your glossary page to show others what these look like. 03/05/10
W.A.L.T Evaluate statments about graphs.
Today we looked at a double bar graph and some statements made about it.
Some of these were true, some were false and soome we didn't have enough information to answer.
Then we looked at another double bar graph and had to write a pretend letter to the Board of Trustes.
Then we looked at a line graph and wrote three statments about it.
I found it was quite challenging. In summary you were looking at results, trends and implications and how to interpret graphs to explain these.
27/05/10
Today we did our second otago maths test. I got 5/5 and i am very happy with my result.
The hardest question was the last one which i just guessed. An interesting strategy...but a great result Tom.
